Artists of the Month at The Store @ DeCordova

LINCOLN, MA—DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park’s The Store @ DeCordova is pleased to announce the continuation of a special artist initiative. The Artist of the Month program highlights some of the best work—quality design, craftsmanship, and creativity—by local artists—while reinforcing The Store’s reputation as one of the best places to purchase unique items by New England artists.

The following Artists of the Month will be featured at The Store @ DeCordova Museum this summer and fall:

July welcomes the work of artists Karen Krieger and David Montgomery. Krieger and Montgomery produce small scenes in three dimensions evoking nostalgic photos and postcards. Inspired by the Moorish architecture of southern Spain, the floral imagery of William Morris, and French and English formal garden design, Krieger blends these influences into quiet and spiritual objects that reflect her fascination with botanical forms, ruins, and sacred places. Montgomery finds inspiration for his Aviaries in bits of the past. His limited edition or one-of-a-kind shadowboxes are made of wood, brass, paper, glass, antique hardware, and various other materials.

Please join us at a free reception for Krieger and Montgomery on Sunday, July 6, from 2 – 4 pm.

Join us in August to explore the work of Brenda Morrison of Jasmine Keane Jewelry. Handmade glass beads in a vivid carnival of colors are the eye-catching materials for Morrison’s creations. She creates her one-of-a-kind jewelry from hand-fashioned lampwork beads.

Please join us at a free reception for Morrison on Sunday, August 3, from 2 – 4 pm.

September celebrates the work of Marie Galvin who fashions fantastic headgear for the ultra-fashionable. Hats have always been part of Galvin’s vision for the perfect ensemble. From whimsical design to funky and classical, her mission is “to create unique handcrafted headwear, providing multiple expressions for the women who wear them.” Her collections are original and hand constructs employing the use of wools, felts, opulent fabrics and exotic trims. With a hat by Galvin, you will be ready for all your autumn and holiday events in Galvin-ized greatness!

Please join us at a free reception for Galvin on Sunday, September 7, from 2 – 4 pm.

In October, come explore the work of artist Polly Cassel. Any piece of handcrafted studio furniture by Cassel will soon become the focal point of the room it inhabits. Shapes and surfaces that command attention are her stock in trade.

Please join us at a free reception for Cassel on Sunday, October 5, from 2 – 4 pm.

November features artist Tami Rodrig. Trained as a painter, one can easily see Rodrig’s splendid color sense in her mixed-media and sterling jewelry. Studying both art and silversmithing, she combines her metal smith techniques with paint and recycled objects to make jewelry. Loving colors and materials, Rodrig looks for interesting combinations and works with a variety of different metals.

Please join us at a free reception for Rodrig on Sunday, November 2, from 2 – 4 pm.
