Development Assistant (temporary six month position)
DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, New England’s largest museum of contemporary art, seeks a full-time Development Assistant for a temporary, six month position to begin immediately. Responsibilities will include supporting the needs of the Development Office through administrative functions. In particular, the Development Assistant will perform the following duties:

College degree required. Candidates must be computer-literate in PC compatible systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred. Excellent writing skills, interpersonal skills, and willingness to work in a team environment are necessary. Candidates should be able to work independently, handle confidential information, work with extremely detailed information, and be flexible while effectively managing multiple priorities.

Please note that this six month, temporary position will be offered from July through December 2008 and will be eligible for the appropriate DeCordova benefits. EOE

Function Manager
This is a part time position with variable hours. Functions take place in the evenings from 4:30pm until 10pm or midnight depending on the night of the week. The Function Manager reports to the Events Coordinator and is charged with supervising all aspects of rental and museum-hosted events including management of caterers and security guards ensuring that each event runs smoothly and that museum policies and security are safeguarded.

Qualifications:
The candidate must have an ability to deal confidently and politely with the public, the vendors, and his or her colleagues, while being flexible, tactful and clear about museum policies.

Curatorial

Preparator/Associate Preparator (Full-time)
The DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, located near Boston in Lincoln, MA is seeking a Preparator/Associate Preparator (title at time of hire dependent on experience). The Preparator is part of a museum team responsible for the installation and maintenance of art in the galleries and within a 35-acre sculpture park. The Preparator works closely with the Chief Preparator, artists, the museum registrar and curators in the planning and installation of museum exhibitions. Ideal candidates will have a BA/BFA, previous museum installation experience, familiarity with museum standards and procedures for arthandling and security, skill in building trades including painting, carpentry, and construction, the ability to build high-quality exhibition furniture, installation components, and crates, the ability to mat and frame works on paper, familiarity with rigging of sculpture, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills. This position requires a valid drivers license and the ability to lift heavy objects.

The DeCordova offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including paid vacation and subsidized health insurance. We are an equal opportunity employer. Salary range: $35-45,000 depending on previous experience.

Curatorial Internships
Curatorial interns at DeCordova engage in a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities as they participate in the day-to-day operations of a contemporary art museum and sculpture park. Interns work closely with staff curators and registrar, and help to install exhibitions, update collection files, maintain records, process loans of artwork, organize daily office operations, and conduct art historical research related to exhibitions or the Permanent Collection.

DeCordova Museum seeks self-motivated interns, graduate students in Art History or Museum Studies, or undergraduate students in Art History (juniors and seniors only) with strong organizational abilities and computer skills. Prospective applicants should be aware that these are unpaid, volunteer positions and that no public transportation serves DeCordova Museum: A car is a must. Internships are available in the summer, fall, and winter/spring semesters, 2 days/week minimum commitment. Please note that the summer 2008 internship position has been filled.

Intern –Adult and Youth Programs
The Adult and Youth Programs interns at DeCordova’s Education Department engage in a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities as they participate in the day-to-day operations of a contemporary art museum and sculpture park. Reporting to the Head of Adult Programs and Head of Youth and Family Programs, Interns work closely with education staff to generate classes and workshops, work on special programming, assist in the purchasing of supplies, organize daily office operations, and conduct survey based research and data collection.

DeCordova Museum seeks self-motivated interns, graduate students in Museum Education, Museum Studies, or Art History undergraduate students in Museum Studies (juniors and seniors only) with strong organizational abilities and computer skills. Prospective applicants should be aware that these are unpaid, volunteer positions and that no public transportation serves DeCordova Museum : A car is a must. Internships are available in the summer, fall, and winter/spring semesters, two days/week minimum commitment. Please note that the summer 2008 internship positions have been filled.

Intern –Youth Program Intern
The Youth Program interns at DeCordova’s Education Department engage in a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities as they participate in the development and realization of a month long summer youth program that consists of 400 plus students. Interns report to the Head of Youth and Family Programs and works closely with them to assist in the planning, organizing, and implementation of the DeCordova’s 2008 Summer Program. Responsibilities will include hiring and managing summer assistants, promoting classes and workshops, purchasing of supplies, photographing classes, organize daily office operations, and various administrative duties. Interns will gain wide exposure to various teaching techniques, programming experience, and managerial skills.

DeCordova Museum seeks self-motivated interns, graduate students in Museum Education, Museum Studies, or Art History undergraduate students in Museum Studies (juniors and seniors only) with strong organizational abilities and computer skills. Marketing and Public Relations

Marketing Internships
DeCordova’s Marketing and Public Relations interns assist in various aspects of information distribution including the writing of press releases and announcements. Based on their level of experience, interns may provide general public relations support for Museum activities including: special events and projects, The Museum School, The Café @ DeCordova, and The Store @ DeCordova. Other duties may include the maintenance of the Museum’s newsclip files, electronic images, and the distribution of specified materials. Interns work directly with the Director of Marketing and Public Relations and will leave with a portfolio of writing samples, project plans, and clips.Self-motivated candidates pursuing graduate or undergraduate (seniors only, please) degrees in Art History, Museum Studies, or Marketing/Communications programs are encouraged to apply. Intern candidates must have strong writing, organizational, and computer skills. Visitor Services Staff
The DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park seeks creative, enthusiastic, and dependable applicants to work in the Visitor Services Department.

Visitor services staff are responsible for the general activities within the visitor services department occurring prior to and during public hours of operations. Visitor services staff are cross trained in the various activities in and around the museum so as to maintain a high level of quality participation in visitor services operations.
