Ati Gropius Johansen

Ati Gropius Johansen is the daughter of Walter Gropius, founder and director of the Bauhaus School of Design in Weimar and Dessau, Germany. She graduated from Black Mountain College in North Carolina, where she studied with painter and Bauhaus teacher Josef Albers. Johansen’s post-graduate work was done at the Institute of Design in Chicago. Her career has primarily focused on graphics, specializing in children’s book illustrations, resulting in over 40 published books. She has vast experience collaborating with architectural and design firms, and has been a teacher for both adults and children since 1980. Johansen has been an instructor at DeCordova Museum School since 1988.
